How To Be A Bawse Review

I started watching Lilly Singh’s videos earlier this year. I KNOW! Super behind… Anyways, I’m a fan and when I heard about her book I wanted to read it, without knowing much about it. Once I read the title, How to be a Bawse, I dragged my feet a bit. A self-help book? *insert eye roll here* Spoiler Alert: I loved it.

There are fifty chapters in total, which seems like a lot, but they flew by. No chapter is more than four pages (including graphics), which make them easy to read. She utilizes her space incredibly well. Even though they’re only a few pages, each chapter is filled with helpful content that can easily be applied to everyday life.

What makes Lilly a reliable resource is her past experiences. She wasn’t always a YouTube sensation. Once upon a time, she was a regular woman dealing with depression and goals and all the other things “regular” people deal with. The advice she gives comes from her real life.

One of my favorite parts of the book was the “Out of the Blue” sections. One page highlights a moment in her life when she felt depressed and the following page highlights a time when she felt the opposite. They’re good reminders of how things can change.

If you’re not convinced you should pick up this book based on the amazing content alone, then consider the book itself. You can tell a lot of time and thought went into designing How to be a Bawse. The pages feel different. The cover, without the jacket, is beautiful. Each chapter beings with a different picture of Lilly and there are full pages devoted to highlighting important phrases.

Honestly, I was in a bit of a creative funk before reading the book. Lilly’s words provided great pep talks over and over again. By the time I finished Bawse, I felt encouraged and ready to get back to work.

Singh did a fantastic job with her first book, How to be a Bawse. Not only is it fun to look at and hold but it’s an entertaining and informative read. Even though it took me awhile to get on board with the idea of being a Bawse, I’m glad I made the decision to give it a chance.
